(Re)thinking Global: Tender Co.

(Re)thinking Global: Tender Co.

UK-based designer William Kroll brings history and integrity to our daily lives with Tender Co, an always evolving collection of workwear pieces adopted and adapted from Industrial Revolution-era garment construction, materials, and aesthetics. In this edition of our (Re)thinking Global series, we check in with William on how the pandemic impacted his workflow, and we hear about his continued efforts in clean sourcing and zero waste.  “All my products are made in the UK, as are all the fabrics—apart from some Japanese denim, which, luckily, I keep in stock,” he told us. “My mainline sewing production is made by just...

Fashion Going Forward: COATZ

Fashion Going Forward: COATZ

Our series “Fashion Going Forward” is about understanding how this time of isolation and ambiguity is changing the lives and work of the brands and designers we work with at Pylon. Today, we hear from Anne McCaddon of COATZ.  “To be honest the word ‘fashion’ has never really resonated with me. I was a painter and started making indigo jackets because I wanted one … and then my friend wanted one … and then I realized they were works of art too; an extension of my art practice,” she told us. “I named them, I titled them, and I got...

Right Now: Carl Jan Cruz

Right Now: Carl Jan Cruz

For several seasons, over three or four years, we watched from afar as Carl Jan Cruz built beautifully singular collections that took ideas about tailoring, proportion, and material somewhere new while expressing something deeply familiar, too. Elements of tradition and craft, rooted in his native Philippines, are by turns overt, abstract, and nuanced. When you hear that he studied menswear at London College of Fashion and spent time at Phoebe Philo’s Celine before launching his own brand and returning home to Manila, the direction, the vibe, the aesthetic all sort of lock into place. As Carl’s island nation (where all...

Murmurations: Abigail Buzbee

Murmurations: Abigail Buzbee

We met Seattle-based researcher, writer, and apparel designer Abigail Buzbee what seems like ages ago, at an art show. Upon introduction we were struck by how perfectly her name fit her vocation. Sometimes it’s that simple, isn’t it? Abigail Buzbee just sounds like someone who runs a cerebral yet animated clothing label with an accompanying fashion/art publication. Novella, Abigail’s likewise perfectly named project, is an “annual-ish” collection of vintage, new, and in-between pieces; the first iteration of the thematically paired magazine is set to launch this summer.  Out of this current turn of events has come another project, ThirdPlace, created...

Murmurations: Carmen Daneshmandi

Murmurations: Carmen Daneshmandi

This is the first iteration of our Murmurations series—a sort of catchall title for the conversations we’re having with friends near and far as we share ideas about what life is and what it can be as we move forward.  Appropriately, artist and photographer Carmen Daneshmandi leads the way. Based between Spain and New York and of Iranian and Spanish heritage, Carmen’s world is an amalgam of perspectives and contexts; the light seems to fall a little differently when she’s there to catch it, and she always, always shows us a new way of seeing. Knowing that her favorite people...
