Toru Hatta
Mishima Bowl, 65
The perfect side bowl. This piece finds ideal aesthetic balance when filled with warm white rice.
Mishima is a traditional technique imported from Korea to Japan. It epitomizes wabi-sabi by balancing intricacy with fluid natural motion.
The base form is thrown then dried for stability. Patterns are then carved with tools and inlaid with slip dried and then fired it twice; first in a tradition wood-fired kiln then in a gas kiln to accentuate variations. Comes in small, medium or large.
