As an illustration student at art school, Londoner Emily Frances Barrett eventually found herself moving beyond 2D forms to create puppets, miniature machines, and dioramas—which eventually gave way to prop-making and set designing on photoshoots.
Later she earned an MA at Central Saint Martins in fashion communication, and then realized it was jewelry making that she was drawn to all along. Describing herself as “an artist that makes jewellery,” she’s currently an artist in residence at Sarabande, the Alexander McQueen Foundation.

Made from found objects (often from the Thames) during the early, stay-at-home months of the pandemic, Emily’s chain rings are all one of a kind; this one features a found ceramic element. The bottom halves of the ring bands in this special collection are solid sterling silver; the top half is fashioned from chain links.

David Koma X Emily Frances Barrett. Carefully sourced from a legal, ethical, and sustainable UK supplier, these real butterfly wings are delicately coated in a non-toxic resin and pierced with a handmade sterling silver ball bar.
Each natural porcupine quill is fitted with a handmade sterling silver cap and Emily’s classic chain links. The designer once told an interviewer that as a child she “had every pet from African land snails to polecats, tortoises, and chickens.” Her obsession and reverence for the natural world runs deep, and it shows.
