Tom’s expressive and intelligent home accessory pieces are products of a soda kiln process that results in a textured and nuanced surface—and an excellent sensory experience. The artist hand-sands all his work to give it a smooth yet sturdy finish; the interiors are glaze-lined. The look is earthen, organic, and natural.

Designed with traditional home preservation practices in mind, Tom’s wheel-thrown, hand-carved fermentation pots are highly functional examples of the minimal, Minnesota-style pottery tradition that he grew up admiring. He uses a unique soda kiln firing process followed by hand-sanding and glazing, resulting in an ultra-smooth but beautifully textured kitchen tool.
