Takuya Yokoyama

Based in Tajimi-shi, Gifu prefecture.

Takuya is known for his impressive utsuwa which is created by several layers of white slip coating over black terracotta. His work stands out in their unique form and presence that has an appearance of tranquility and strength showing the inner beauty of the line of clay.

His white-glazed vases are made of black clay with high iron content, and white mud is applied over and over again to create a unique style. The process is usually completed in an instant, but he uses the technique of “layering” and spends a great deal of time on this process. The black color that looks like a black pattern on the surface of the bowl is the color of the clay.
